A motion proposed by Cllr Elwyn Vaughan will ask the Council's Cabinet to grant a days leave to all Powys Council staff to celebrate St David's Day, or Dydd Gwyl Dewi
The motion, which will be considered on Friday 22nd July 2022 by the County Council, asks the Council's Cabinet to officially recognise St David's Day by giving a day's leave to the Council workforce on 1st March each year.
According to the resource implication by the Council's S151 officer, the motion would cost circua £700,000, but the figure would need to be calculated more accurately.
Gwynedd Council became the first local authority in Wales to grant staff an extra day's holiday on St David's Day earlier this year. The extra holiday there cost Gwynedd around £200,000.
The motion also asks Council to write to the UK Government to ask that the ability to create a bank holiday is devolved to the Welsh Government, which is already devolved to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
