Shoes for the Soul shop in Newtown to close down

Shoes for the Soul, a family-owned shoe store in Newtown that has been operating for over 30 years, has announced its closure.

The store, which was a Clarks franchise for 26 years before becoming an independent retailer in 2016, has been a popular spot for generations of children who have purchased their first shoes there.

In a statement released on Monday, March 20, the store announced its closure, thanking its customers for their support over the last 33 years.

The business has launched a closing down sale, offering discounts of up to 70% to customers, and plans to confirm a closing date soon.

The business was led by Dennis Hawker for 26 years before his son, Anthony Hawker, took over in 2016. Anthony had been fitting shoes since he was a teenager, learning the trade from his father, who has been fitting shoes for over 60 years.
