Runner Up - Newtown Local Business of the Year 2024 (Third Sector)

Budget 2024/25

What is happening?

Every year, various public bodies around the UK set their upcoming budget for the financial year. The financial year runs April to March each year.

In Newtown, the public bodies concerned are Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and the Police & Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn.

All of these three bodies are elected by you. They all have the power to charge you, via council tax, for the services they provide.

What is Council Tax?

Council Tax is levied on every property in the UK. It is made up of a property element and personal element. In Wales, houses are valued and placed into 9 bands by the Valuation Office Agency.

The amount you pay is decided by the three organisations which have the power to charge - Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and the Police & Crime Commissioner.
