Budget 2025/26

Public bodies are setting their local budgets and taxation for the upcoming year.

Share

Every year, various public bodies around the UK set their upcoming budget for the financial year. The financial year runs April to March each year.

In Newtown, the public bodies concerned are Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and the Police & Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn.

All of these three bodies/persons are elected by you. They all have the power to charge you, via council tax, for the services they provide.

What is Council Tax?

Council Tax is levied on every property in the UK. It is made up of a property element and personal element. In Wales, houses are valued and placed into 9 bands by the Valuation Office Agency. A revaluation last took place in 2003.

The amount you pay is decided by the three organisations which have the power to levy a charge - Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and the Police & Crime Commissioner.
