About

Join us for this one-day event in Newtown, as we celebrate and explore the amazing things that can happen when people come together in Powys.

Whether you already run your own community project, you’ve got an idea you want to explore or you’re keen to find a small step you could take – come along to hear local stories, take part in creative workshops and network with community-minded people in Newtown and across Powys.

It’s a jam-packed programme!

We’ll start the day hearing from Stuart Owen and the team of dedicated volunteers and staff from Open Newtown. They’ll be sharing how they’re bringing the community together to collaboratively manage local, natural resources, including 130 acres of the towns’ green spaces. Their aim: to develop projects and create opportunities that will help make Newtown open to all!

We’ve got two great activity-based workshops – you can choose the one that's right for you;

> Nature & Community in Action - Creating Beeswax Wraps
In support of Newtown's bid to become a bee-friendly town, in this session you can create your own reusable food cover made from natural beeswax and re-purposed cotton fabrics. Find out more about other easy swaps that are planet positive and a fun way to bring people together.

> Growing Connections - led by Cultivate
A hands on workshop that covers everything - people & plants, growing & gathering, cooking & community.

Plus other activities throughout the day that everyone can take-part in together;

>Creating a Buzz
Get practical and learn how you can create a buzz with wildflower seeds in no time at all! Then taking what we’ve created we’ll buzz about planting together in Dolerw Park in support of Newtown's bid to become a bee-friendly town.

> A Hive of Activity: Local Community Walk & Site Visit - led by Keep Wales Tidy.....
Explore local spots around Newtown town centre, including Ponthafren Community Garden, the local Church pollinator bed and developed projects in Dolerw Park. Find out more about Keep Wales Tidy's free garden packages and what you can achieve with them, and how we can all benefit from a stronger connection with nature.

> We’re even hosting a Big Lunch, and invite everyone to share food and conversation. From fruit to sweet treats, salad to crisps, if you’re able to, we’d love for you to bring something shareable to the Big Lunch table!

Whatever your area of community focus, come and enjoy an opportunity to create a buzz, connect to nature and explore community action in Powys.

This Spring we’re running a series of events just like this one across the whole of the UK, including 2 more in Wales. Join in and be part of something bigger – let’s make positive change together!
