Newtown residents will have to wait a little longer to find out the fate of the north Powys Wales Air Ambulance air base, as a decision has been postponed until 28 March.

Initially, a decision was expected to be made during a meeting of health board chief executives, but they have opted to hold a vote next week instead. Powys Teaching Health Board is set to meet today to discuss their stance on the matter.

Last week, a report was published proposing the closure of the Welshpool and Caernarfon air bases in favor of creating a new one in Rhyl.

However, this suggestion has sparked outrage among residents in Mid Wales who fear that it will result in longer emergency response times in rural areas. In light of the potential changes, many residents have taken action by either halting their direct debits to the air ambulance charity or contemplating discontinuing their donations altogether.

This news comes after two years of discussions and consultations regarding the proposed plans.

The decision that will be made on 28 March is expected to have significant implications for the local community in Newtown and the surrounding areas.
