£5,000 has been earmarked to combat food litter in various town locations including the town centre, open spaces, and residential areas. Proposed projects may involve community clean-up events, installation of additional waste bins, and public awareness campaigns to create a cleaner and more inviting environment.
An extra £1,000 will be available for initiatives promoting and educating the public on maintaining cleanliness in Newtown. Organisations such as local schools, local media outlets, and community volunteers are encouraged to submit proposals for projects, workshops, and events that raise awareness about the importance of a clean town.
£1,000 will be allocated to support community transport projects aimed at reducing the town's carbon footprint and addressing transportation challenges. Potential ideas include car share schemes, communal school buses, and promoting healthier lifestyles through bike programs.
In a statement, a spokesperson said:
"These initiatives are part of Newtown’s broader strategy to foster a sustainable and vibrant community."
"The council encourages local organisations to participate in these programs and contribute to the town’s ongoing efforts to improve living standards and environmental health."
The deadline for the October round of Community Fund Grants is midnight on 30th September.
