In his statement to councillors, Mr Harris indicates that he has been a town councillor previously between 2004 and 2008, but had to leave the area due to employment and has now returned. He said:
"Now that I am back living and working in the area, I am eagar to contribute to the community once again, bringing with me the added perspective gained over the years."
Ms Tanner, who indicates she has lived in Newtown for over 50 years, also wants to join the council to "work alongside other councillors to help with the continuous improvements to our town and community to benefit both our town residents and visitors to the town."
Town councillors will have the option of either approving or rejecting the candidates. As there are two candidates for two seats, it is understood no ballot will be taking place.
