Town councillors last considered a request from CSN for a Pride pop-up event at the Newtown Kindness Festival in 2023 but rejected the officer's recommendation. Before this, the development of a Pride event has been a long running discussion point with the committee supporting councillors to work with the then Council's Youth Rep, Gemma Wallis.
In a report from the Development Manager, the new proposal states that CSN was approached by Newtown High School to develop activities with it's LGBTQI+ group called Tutti Fruitti. The group contains about 30 high school pupils.
CSN are asking for a contribution of £500 to fund the hire of a dedicated craft workshop and enable the purchase of materials to create a carnival float with Tutti Fruitti for the upcoming Newtown Carnival in June. According to the report, an artist practitioner from the LGBTQI+ community will lead the workshops, supported by Oriel Davies Gallery.
As the budget is still remaining from the first time of asking, the officers recommendation is that town councillors support the proposal.
