It is hoped that this insightful data will be used to shape the future of the town centre in Newtown.

Key findings included:

  • Variety of Shops: The survey revealed a strong demand for a more diverse range of shops. Participants expressed a desire for a blend of unique, independent stores and popular retail chains to enhance the shopping experience on high street.
  • Parking Concerns: Accessible and affordable parking is a significant issue for many respondents. The feedback indicated that current parking options are either too costly or inconvenient, which discourages potential shoppers and visitors from frequenting the area.
  • Retail Quality and Diversity: There is a call for improved quality and diversity in retail offerings. Respondents highlighted the need for more specialized shops and services that cater to various interests and needs.

Respondents also felt that business taxes were high, however the reality is that most high street businesses qualify for Small Business Rates Relief, so pay zero or a reduced rate.

All About Newtown have compiled the findings into a report which is available by clicking here.

The report has been sent to Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and Newtown Town Partnership which contains actionable suggestions based on the feedback.

It is hoped that residents suggestions will be taken forward and discussed by the relevant authorities.
