As reported in the press, this decision came to light during the health board's annual meeting, when a concerned member of the public questioned the reintroduction of face mask mandates in Powys hospitals.

Clare Roche, the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, addressed the inquiry by explaining the reasons behind the mask requirement. She stated, "The reintroduction of face masks is a direct response to the rising number of Covid-19 cases within our communities in recent weeks. We closely monitor data provided by Public Health Wales, which clearly shows a significant increase in cases."
Roche further emphasized that further spikes in cases are anticipated over the next few weeks, and the health board will consistently evaluate the situation. Notably, the World Health Organization (WHO) strongly recommends the use of face masks for public health workers, patients, and visitors in communities where Covid-19 is prevalent, and the health board is adhering to this guidance.
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the requirement to wear face masks had been in place as a preventive measure.
With the new outbreak, the health board aims to ensure the safety of both staff and visitors by reinstating this precautionary measure.
