Foreign Secretary tours local business

Craig Williams, the Welsh Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, and the Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon James Cleverly MP, embarked on a visit to Cellpath, located in Newtown, last Friday (9th June).

The purpose of their tour was to gain a deeper understanding of the operations at Cellpath, a company specializing in the manufacturing and supply of consumables, equipment, and services for the cellular pathology sector.

The Webber family, founders of Cellpath in 1972, were present during the visit and have made significant contributions to both the cancer diagnostics industry and the local community.

Having recently been acquired by the American company Statlab, Cellpath has attracted attention as an example of promising inward investment.

The meeting between Craig Williams, the Foreign Secretary, the Webber family, and the new owners provided an opportunity to discuss the future growth and development of Cellpath within Newtown.

Craig Williams MP expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, highlighting the integral role that Cellpath has played in cancer diagnostics since its establishment almost five decades ago. The company has been instrumental in facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, notably cancer. Williams also emphasized the importance of introducing the Foreign Secretary to the Webber family, particularly Peter Webber, the Chairman of Cellpath, who has been a steadfast supporter of Montgomeryshire and its communities for many years.

The acquisition of Cellpath by Statlab stands as a testament to the expertise and commercial potential within Montgomeryshire. Craig Williams MP welcomed this development, considering it as further evidence of the region's capabilities. The meeting with Statlab offered an invaluable opportunity to learn about the company's future plans and their commitment to driving growth in partnership with Cellpath.
