Funding made available by Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council supported street parties during Platinum Jubilee bank holiday.
Residents were encouraged to apply for funding of up to £50 to contribute events which were to take place in public spaces.

A total of £1000 had been set aside by Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council to support these events. The criteria of the funding ensured that the support was given to community events to support the purchase of food, decorations or hall hire.
Eleven applications were approved for the Jubilee celebrations funding from all over Newtown, including Treowen Community Hall, Millfields, Brynmor Close, as well as many more.
A year of celebrations are taking place to mark the Queen’s historic 70-year reign, when Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
The Town Clerk commented:
"The occasion of the Jubilee is one which many people wanted to celebrate or commemorate together in local neighbourhoods. The town council decided to play an enabling role for its community. By making financial assistance available to help event organisers it helped many Newtonians celebrate the way they preferred.”
