Businesses in Newtown looking to expand or secure their future in the face of challenging times could benefit from a Growth Grant offered by Powys County Council.

With nearly £1.1 million secured from the UK Government via the Shared Prosperity Fund, businesses in Powys could receive sums between £1,000 and £25,000.

This money is also available to businesses looking to move to the area, with the aim of supporting economic development during difficult times.

The first window for grant applications saw £143,000 allocated, leading the council to apply for additional funding to increase the pot to £950,000 for the second window. Businesses can use the money for capital schemes and one-off revenue projects but not for usual running costs.

Cllr David Selby, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys said:

"These grants are being delivered as part of our ongoing commitment to support economic development during difficult times, as part of our wider aim of creating a stronger, fairer and greener Powys."

"We want to help businesses in the county, and those that want to move to here, at all stages of development to sustain, grow and innovate, including through local networks."

Sectors targeted for support include Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Construction, Creative Industries, Energy and Environment, Finance and Professional Services, Information Technology and Telecoms, Life Sciences, Food and Drink, Tourism, Retail, Care, and more.

Applications from other sectors will be considered based on their value to the local economy, with a focus on creating jobs at the Real Living Wage.

Businesses are also encouraged to commit to sustainable development by signing up to the Welsh Government's Green Growth Pledge. For more information on how to apply for a Powys Business Growth Grant, visit the Powys County Council website or email [email protected].
