Residents have just a few weeks left to have their say on the County Council's development plan, which could see hundreds of new houses built in the local area over the next twenty years.

As we'd reported last month, Powys County Council is currently preparing its new Replacement Local Development Plan, which will cover all of Powys excluding the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

The Replacement Local Development Plan will set out the Council's proposals and land-use policies for the future development of land in its area. It covers the 15-year period from 2022 to 2037 and will be used to guide decisions on planning applications once adopted.

The potential developments include housing next to the current NPTC Campus, Newtown Hospital site and other areas of green space across the town.

Not all sites could be accepted into the final plan, and public responses will be taken into consideration.

The plan was discussed at the Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council's Economy & Environment Committee earlier this month, which responded to the consultation as a based on recommendations prepared by a working party, consisting of town councillors, Cllr Paul Harris, Cllr Margaret Lewington and Cllr Pete Lewington.

The Committee recommended that alterations be made to align the new Replacement Local Development Plan and the existing Newtown Place Plan. It also responded that it wishes to see "no open space amenity lost to development".

The Committee also outlined each candidate area and gave their comment, including plans to build on the current Montgomery County Infirmary site.

The consultation ends on the 7th October 2024.
