With Christmas Day just around the corner, let’s take a closer look at the weather forecast to help you plan your celebrations.

The week before Christmas is shaping up to be an unsettled one.

Thursday promises some reprieve for many inland areas, with chilly but sunny conditions. However, brisk northwesterly breezes will make temperatures feel colder than they are. Expect showers—some potentially wintry—in western parts of the UK, including Wales and the northern reaches of England.

Friday brings the likelihood of a widespread frost in the morning, but temperatures will creep up slightly through the day. A quieter spell of weather will give way to rain moving southeast, possibly bringing showers to Newtown by the evening.

As the weekend approaches, a deep area of low pressure tracking across the north of the UK is set to bring a wet and windy spell. While the most severe winds are expected in northern Scotland, gusts of 60-75 mph could still disrupt travel plans in the lead-up to Christmas.

Newtown residents should be prepared for rain on Saturday and the possibility of snow on higher ground in northern regions by Sunday morning.

Sunday’s forecast includes sunny intervals and blustery showers for much of the UK. The far north and west will bear the brunt of wintry weather, with sleet and snow possible. Temperatures will feel particularly chilly due to windchill, so bundle up if you’re heading outdoors.

The good news? A more settled spell of weather is expected to arrive just in time for Christmas.

From Christmas Eve onwards, high pressure is forecast to dominate, leading to drier, calmer conditions for most of the UK.

For Newtown, this means a dry and often cloudy Christmas Day with light winds and mild temperatures—perfect for a leisurely festive walk.

Those dreaming of a white Christmas will, unfortunately, be disappointed, as snow is highly unlikely for our area.
