Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) has introduced Hayley Thomas as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Hayley, who previously held the position of Interim CEO, now takes on the role permanently following a rigorous recruitment process.

Having assumed the role of Interim CEO after Carol Shillabeer's departure, Hayley is no stranger to the organization. She joined PTHB in 2013 as the Head of Programme Management, showcasing her commitment to the health board's objectives over the years. Her journey within PTHB includes roles as the Executive Director of Planning and the Executive Director of Primary Care, Community Care, and Mental Health.

Carl Cooper, Chair of PTHB, expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment, saying, “I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Hayley Thomas as the Chief Executive Officer of Powys Teaching Health Board. I have no doubt that Hayley's considerable skills, knowledge, experience, and expertise will underpin her effective leadership and management of healthcare in Powys.”

He further highlighted Hayley's creative vision, strategic clarity, and focus on implementation and delivery as essential qualities that will contribute to addressing the challenges faced by the NHS in Powys. Cooper looks forward to working collaboratively with Hayley and the entire PTHB team to navigate these challenges with hope and confidence.

In response to her appointment, Hayley expressed her privilege and excitement to lead the health board, acknowledging the challenges faced by the NHS. However, she also emphasized the numerous opportunities to enhance healthcare services for the people of Powys. Hayley outlined the 'Better Together' program, aiming to foster collaboration with the County Council, voluntary sector, and other stakeholders to improve health and well-being across the region.

"It is a privilege to lead the health board. While the NHS faces challenges, there are many opportunities to develop continually improving services for the people of Powys, and I am pleased to be part of the process," said Hayley.

She commended the dedication of PTHB staff and expressed her commitment to supporting colleagues in their vital work. Hayley emphasized her passion for working collaboratively with partners and communities to provide the best possible care and to enhance long-term health and well-being.
