St David’s House, a three-storey office building formerly the Laura Ashley headquarters, will be transformed to accommodate a Doctors Surgery under the D1 non-residential institutions category. Consultation rooms, waiting areas, reception, and staff facilities are some of the enhancements planned to improve Primary Healthcare Provision in Newtown.
The proposed surgery will serve as an relocation of surgery currently provided in old Ladywell Shopping Centre. With the support of the Powys Teaching Health Board, the new facility aims to enhance healthcare services in the area without requiring external alterations to the existing building.
According to the accompaning planning statement, the strategic location of St David’s House provides easy access for residents from the town and surrounding areas. Additionally, the building offers onsite dedicated parking spaces for staff and patients with disabilities.
Town councillors will consider the application at their next meeting in October and provide a comment, however the final decision will be made by Powys County Council at either their Planning Committee or delegated to officers.
The application can be viewed online here and using reference '24/1328/FUL'. Comments can be submitted via the Planning Portal.
