Our town is abuzz with excitement as plans unfold for a major sporting event set to take place in July and August 2025.

This year holds significant milestones for Newtown, including the 150th anniversary of Newtown AFC, the 100th anniversary of Newtown RFC, the 100th anniversary of Newtown Silver Band's band room, the 200th anniversary of Robert Owen's creation of New Harmony, Indiana, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of renowned designer Laura Ashley.

Local organisations have already kicked off discussions on hosting a series of weekend events throughout the town, as revealed in a report presented to the Economy and Environment Committee of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council at their meeting yesterday (3rd February)

The festivities are anticipated to culminate in a special 'Try a Sport' day at the park in August, drawing inspiration from the historic Pryce Pryce-Jones Sports and Music events held at the Recreation Ground in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

"The proposed event aligns perfectly with Newtown’s Place Plan objectives, emphasizing community engagement and promoting a diverse calendar of activities throughout the year," the report highlighted.
