Want to get out of the house this half term? Head to Gregynog and complete the Haunted Halloween Trail through the forest and beautiful gardens.

Before the trail officially kicks off today, I was lucky enough to complete it yesterday with my wife, daughter and extended family along with our Golden Retriever, Barney.

  Haunted Half Term Halloween Trail

This event starts at 28/10/2024 10:00am and is being held at Gregynog Hall. Tickets from £6. Click here for more information.

We bundled up and made our way to the impressive Gregynog estate, located just a short drive northwest of Newtown in the charming village of Tregynon.

Grab your activity trail sheet from the Gregynog Cafe

Once we arrived, we stopped by the café to collect our activity sheets, ready to navigate Gregynog’s Grade I listed gardens and ancient woodlands.

The challenge was simple - find 14 letters hidden on tombstones throughout the woods to unlock the secret word. The woods are especially beautiful at this time of year with amazing autumnal colours.

Navigating the trail was great - the perfect blend of spooky and family-friendly fun. The route was challenging enough to keep us searching, yet gentle on younger legs, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience. Barney absolutely loved it and got very muddy!

A spooky den in the woods

After about an hour of winding through the woods and piecing together letters, we finally cracked the code with a visit to the Spiders Lair, which is located under the historic bridge infront of the impressive hall.

With the solution in hand, we made our way back to the café for our well-earned prize: a cozy hot chocolate and a biscuit to warm up after our adventure.

For anyone looking to spend an autumn afternoon steeped in history, natural beauty, and Halloween spirit, the Haunted Halloween Trail is a must.

The Haunted Halloween Trail runs until the end of this week. There will also be spooky themed facepaints available on Monday and Tuesday.
