Parents in Newtown are being cautioned by Dyfed-Powys Police to carefully consider the legal implications before purchasing electronic scooters as Christmas gifts this year.

While e-scooters might appear to be an enticing present, authorities are reminding parents of the risks associated with their usage, stressing the importance of understanding the law surrounding these devices.

In the UK, it is only legal to use privately owned e-scooters on private land with permission from the landowner. Riding e-scooters on public roads, pavements, parks, or cycle paths is prohibited by law and could result in fines and penalties.

Sergeant Dave Mallin of Dyfed-Powys Police emphasized, "Privately owned e-scooters are illegal to use in public areas and can pose a significant danger to other road users and pedestrians. It's crucial for parents to be aware of the regulations and risks associated with e-scooters."

Furthermore, e-scooter riders must be over 16 years old and possess a full or provisional car/motorbike/moped license to operate these vehicles legally.

Sgt Mallin concluded by saying, "Dyfed-Powys Police maintains a strict stance on e-scooters, and we advise parents to reconsider purchasing e-scooters as Christmas gifts and opt for safer and more suitable presents."
