A lad from Newtown is changing the game in the local property market by setting up a new fixed fee estate agent business, Mid Wales Homes, which prioritises transparency, flexibility and affordability.

We recently chatted with Rhys Jones, the man behind the new Mid Wales Homes estate agency which is looking to take on well established names in Newtown and Mid Wales.

In an interview with All About Newtown, Rhys shared that growing up his ambition was always setting up his own business, particularly in the property sector. Initially drawn to property development, his focus shifted when he faced the complexities of buying his first home. The costs associated with traditional agencies suprised him and he was inspired to create an alterative.

With three property listings already on Rightmove, Mid Wales Homes is off to a great start. Our full interview with Rhys is below:

Can you share more about the inspiration and journey that led to the establishment of Mid Wales Homes? What motivated you to start your own estate agency business?

Growing up my ambition was always in entrepreneurship, particularly within the property sector. Initially drawn to property development, my focus shifted when I attempted to buy my first home and quickly recognised the pressing need for a new estate agency in my area. Witnessing the costs associated with traditional agencies surprised me, so I delved straight into understanding how to create an alternative and also how to make it better.

In what ways does Mid Wales Homes differentiate itself from other estate agencies in the Newtown/mid Wales area? What aspects of your business model do you believe make it more modern and genuine?

Mid Wales Homes offers a unique approach to estate agency services. Our fixed fee packages with transparent pricing provides a cost-effective alternative to the traditional percentage-based commissions we see in this area. What I believe sets us apart is our diverse range of packages tailored to meet the needs of our clients. We firmly believe that one size doesn’t fit all, so our clients can choose a package that aligns with their requirements and budget.

We also offer out of hours service to accompany busy schedules. Whilst traditional estate agencies will be closing their doors at 5pm we will be opening ours, relieving the stress of trying to organise and squeeze in appointments on a working day.

You mentioned navigating the complexities of buying your first home as a pivotal moment. Could you elaborate on some challenges you encountered and how that experience influenced your approach in setting up Mid Wales Homes?

Absolutely, my journey in an attempt to buy my first home was a series of challenges. Communication breakdowns with estate agents were a significant issue. In one instance, my offer on a property, placed above asking price was left unanswered for two weeks until I followed up, only to discover my offer had been rejected but without any notification. These experiences only fuelled my motivation to create a more transparent and supportive approach to home buying.

Congratulations on placing your third property on Rightmove! How has the response been so far, and what are your expectations for the growth of Mid Wales Homes in the coming months?

The response has exceeded our expectations. Our first property went under offer in just three weeks! This particular client saved around £1500 choosing Mid Wales Homes to market their property. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the glowing review they provided and the positive impact we’ve had on our clients’ experience. As we approach the completion date, it marks a significant milestone for Mid Wales Homes - a successful sale that will set the tone for our commitment to an efficient, client-focused service. We’re excited about the growth ahead and look forward to helping more clients achieve their property goals.

What is your long-term vision for Mid Wales Homes? Are there specific milestones or goals you aim to achieve in the next few years?

The long-term vision for Mid Wales Homes is to become the go-to name for property services in the Newtown and Mid Wales area. With the current expansion into the lettings/management services I believe this could soon become a reality. As long as we aim to consistently deliver exceptional service and continue to expand our reach and impact the growth will soon follow.
