According to a statement from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, crews from Newtown and Llanidloes Fire Stations swiftly reacted to a call at 3:50 pm on June 7th regarding an LGV containing approximately 13 tonnes of smoldering mixed recycling.

The firefighters deployed three hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, and small gear to remove the recycling from the vehicle, turn it over, and dampen it down.
The incident, which required a multi-agency response, saw personnel from Natural Resources Wales, Dyfed-Powys Police, and the Local Authority also in attendance to assist in the operation.
Fortunately, the situation was brought under control, with fire crews leaving the scene at 12:27 am on Saturday, June 8th.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed their involvement in responding to reports of a lorry on fire in a layby on the A489 Newtown Bypass just after 4 pm on Friday, which led to the closure of the road while emergency services worked at the scene.
Residents and motorists were urged to exercise caution and patience as authorities managed the situation and attended to the incident on the bypass.
