Armed police deployed to ‘disturbance’

Residents and visitors of Newtown were startled on Friday as armed police officers and a police helicopter were deployed in response to a disturbance in the Plas Melinydd area of the town.

Residents and visitors of Newtown were startled on Friday as armed police officers and a police helicopter were deployed in response to a disturbance in the Plas Melinydd area of the town.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police confirmed the incident, stating, "Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a disturbance in the Plas Melinydd area of Newtown at around 10.50am on October 4. Fortunately, no injuries were reported."

The spokesperson went on to say, "One man, aged 22, was arrested on suspicion of theft in connection to the incident. He has since been released on bail as investigations continue."
