New 'meander' trail progressing well

Town councillors will hear next week that the new meander trail in Dolerw Park is progressing well.

As we reported back last month, Open Newtown announced new plans to create a new accessible route, called the Dolerw Park Meadow Meander trail.

This mobility-friendly nature trail is part of the Local Places for Nature project undertaken by Open Newtown in collaboration with Powys County Council.

The 400-meter accessible trail will wind through meadow areas along the picturesque River Severn, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy the beauty of the park.

Next week, town councillors on the Services Committee, will hear an update from Open Newtown as part of their Service Level Agreement with the Town Council.

The update report states that works have commenced on the trail, with a free draining accessible pathway and grass green path and new seating area.

The project includes biodiversity-focused improvements such as bug hotels and bird boxes created by local schools and volunteer groups.

Open Newtown state that they have received a "substantial positive response" to the project.
