The festival – which runs from 11am-3pm - will include hog roast and ice-cream giveaways, a free raffle, an open mic session for local musicians and other musical performances, bouncy castles, opportunities to take part in sports and bushcraft activities as well as lots more. A number of organisations will also have stalls at the event.
The festival is being sponsored by Powys Together and the North Powys Wellbeing Programme and is being organised and supported by a range of different organisations and led by Jo Hughes of Powys Together.
Jo commented:
“We are seeing tremendous support from local businesses for the Newtown Fun Festival with lots of them donating items for our raffle and offering free giveaways on the day. The original idea for this event was to spread a bit of kindness around Newtown as families deal with the effects of the pandemic and the pressures of the current cost of living crisis. And that’s what we’ll be trying to do, with many free things as possible available on the day.”
Newtown East Councillor, Cllr Joy Jones, who came up with the idea for the festival, to promote kindness to the community, commented
“I’m really grateful that businesses and organisations are coming together and this should be a really exciting event, to show kindness to people in the community. I hope everyone can come along and enjoy the event and make the most of the free food and gifts on the day.”
Organisations or businesses who would like to discuss taking part in the festival are being asked to contact Donna Jenkins on 01686 614031 or donna.jenkins@powys.gov.uk
