Having served in the NHS since 2011, initially as a mental health nurse and later as the Lead Nurse for Dementia at Powys Teaching Health Board for six years, Heather has made significant contributions to enhancing dementia care within the local community and across Wales.

The Cabinet Office praised Heather's unwavering commitment, stating that she has provided "impetus, compassion, and drive to improve dementia care in Powys and across Wales."

Under her leadership, there has been a notable improvement in the diagnosis rates for people with dementia, the adoption of a new Hospital Charter, and increased community engagement to create a dementia-friendly environment for the future.

Heather has played a pivotal role in implementing the All Wales Dementia Standards in Powys, ensuring that the journey of individuals with dementia, both before and after diagnosis, is informed by meaningful experiences shared by the patients and their families.

Joining Heather in this year's honours list were other residents of Powys. Lady Hague, who resides near Welshpool with her husband and former Conservative leader William Hague, received a damehood for her exceptional services to public service and business. Additionally, talented sculptor and jeweler Andrew Logan from Berriew was awarded an MBE for his outstanding contributions to the arts.
