Remember... your metal matters!

When it comes to recycling, metal is hard to beat. That's because it's endlessly recyclable - every last bit can be turned into something else. And it's a cycle that can go on forever.

The food or drink cans and other metal packaging items you recycle at home could end up being transformed into any one of a wide number of new products, from a designer watch or a smartphone, to a washing machine or even a new bus!

Every time metal is recycled, it saves energy, cuts greenhouse gas emissions, and saves on landfill space - so it's good news for the planet.

Best of all, it doesn't take a lot of effort on your part to make a big difference. All you need to do is drop your cans, empty aerosols, tins, and foil in your red box - not the rubbish bin. It's as easy as that!

Items to put in your Red Recycling Box include:

• Drink cans
• Food tins
• Pet food tins
• Empty aerosols
• Metal lids from jars and bottles
• Kitchen foil (clean)
• Foil trays (clean)
• Sweet / biscuit tins

Please ensure your aerosols are empty, and foil, as well as foil trays / food tins, have been wiped or rinsed before adding these items to your recycling.

We're participating in a new campaign from Powys County Council called MetalMatters. In a bid to improve kerbside recycling rates, households across the county are being encouraged to recycle their metal packaging, including food and drink cans, aluminum wrapping foil and foil trays, as well as empty aerosols and metal screw tops in their red kerbside collection box.

The campaign is part funded and managed by the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organization (Alupro), and working with Powys County Council, the ‘MetalMatters’ program will use targeted social media and digital messaging, school visits, and community outreach to communicate the widespread benefits of recycling your metal household packaging.
