Local jobs at risk due to depot close

More than 12 jobs are in jeopardy at a Newtown depot for one of the UK's leading convenience food manufacturers.

Greencore, the largest producer of pre-packaged sandwiches in the UK, informed its employees on Thursday about the proposed closure of its depot in Llanidloes Road.

If the proposal is approved, the transport hub will shut down by the end of September.

The reason behind the decision to close the depot has not been disclosed by Greencore, which has been operating in Newtown for over 14 years.

The company supplies major supermarkets such as Morrisons, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Co-op, as well as high street retailers like Boots.
