Parent company Nidec announced today its plans to right-size the operational capacity at the Newtown facility, which may result in the loss of 98 jobs.

In a joint effort, Craig Williams MP and Russell George MS, representing Montgomeryshire, are collaborating with Nidec Control Techniques and the UK Government to provide support to employees affected by the anticipated loss of 98 jobs at the company's Newtown factory.

The proposed changes, in response to current market conditions, may result in the reduction of up to 98 positions, with a strong emphasis on achieving voluntary redundancies.

To ease the transition for affected staff, Nidec will offer comprehensive redundancy packages and outplacement support services.

Craig Williams MP expressed his concern, stating "Today’s announcement by Nidec Control Techniques is very sad news for all staff and families who may be affected by job losses at their Newtown factory."

Both Craig Williams and Russell George plan to meet with Nidec officials to discuss strategies for supporting both the affected staff and the company during this challenging period.

Williams also revealed ongoing discussions with the Department for Work & Pensions to establish a Taskforce that will expedite the delivery of essential support to those affected.

He emphasized Nidec's commitment to remaining in Newtown for the long term, acknowledging the difficulty of the decision the company had to make.

Russell George MS echoed the sentiment, calling the news "incredibly sad" and expressing his immediate concern for the affected employees and their families.

Recognizing Control Techniques' significance as one of Newtown’s major employers, George pledged to work closely with Nidec, Craig Williams, and other stakeholders to ensure affected staff receive prompt access to necessary support services.
