One resident mentioned receiving a letter indicating that the works would continue 24 hours a day until the 21st, and possibly extending until July.
However, others living closer to the railway, such as those at Hill View, claim they did not receive any letter advising of the nighttime works.
The affected residents are questioning why the work is being carried out overnight, especially when trains are not currently running. The noise from the railway works has been described as "awful" and "getting worse each night," with one resident saying they feel like "a walking zombie" due to sleep deprivation.
A Network Rail spokesperson said:
“We are carrying out essential track maintenance work near Newtown station, in Powys, to improve passenger experience and reduce delays.
“Our teams are working as quickly and as safely as possible to complete these upgrades, with 24/7 shifts until Monday 22 May, to minimise the duration of the disruption.
“We are doing everything we can to keep noise to a minimum and apologise for any disturbance those living near the railway might experience."
