Town councillors in Newtown are set to discuss a funding request for the Newtown Silver Band to attend the National Finals in Cheltenham.
The request, submitted by Newtown Silver Band, is to support their qualification to the National Brass Band Finals in Cheltenham. According to the band, this will be the first time they have qualified in nearly 20 years.

The band qualified after coming second in the Welsh Regional Brass Band Championship in Swansea in March and will now have the chance to play against 19 other bands from across the UK.
The proposal seeks a grant of £1000 to help subsidise the overnight accomodation that will allow the Silver Band to create an exciting and enjoyable opportunity for all members regardless of their financial means.
After a thorough review, council officers have recommended approving a grant of £1,000 to support the request, subject to checks on a signed constitution.
