A 16 year old has been arrested over a stabbing incident Newtown town centre last night.

Emergency services flooded the town centre on Friday night following reports of an incident near the Cross in the Town Centre.

A police cordon was put in place between High Street and Shortbridge Street. At the time of publishing on Saturday, officers remain in place at Parkers Lane and Shortbridge Street.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said:

"At approximately 20.25 on Friday March 7, Dyfed-Powys Police received reports of an incident near Parkers Lane, Newtown."

"Officers, including firearms officers, attended the scene, and found an 18-year-old male had sustained an injury to his arm – a stab wound."

"Officers administered first aid and an ambulance attended and conveyed the victim to hospital."

"A 16-year-old was swiftly arrested at a nearby property on suspicion of Assault GBH, and he remains in custody."

"The scene remains cordoned off for investigation, and there is an increased police presence within the town centre. If anyone has any concerns please speak to the neighbourhood policing and prevention officers in the area. We are not searching for anyone else in connection with this matter."

The 16 year old cannot be identified for legal reasons and he remains in custody.

The incident came on the back of an unrelated incident which also happened in the town centre on Friday, which saw a 20 year old man arrested and charged with threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Mold Crown Court on the 8th March 2025.

This incident was not related to the stabbing on Friday night.
