Town councillors will consider a planning application from Mid Wales Property to refurbish and extend two iconic buildings on New Road, creating high quality homes.
The plans, which would see the refurbishment of two iconic townhouses, Nythfa and Tyr Y Bobol, built between 1843 and 1884, into high quality and energy efficient homes.

According to the accompanying Design and Access Statement, it states that:
"The site is occupied by Tyr Y Bobol and Nyftha, the former townhouses have been converted in recent years through a number of extensions to provide affordable accommodation as self-contained bed-sits."
"The existing properties have suffered from a variety of issues over recent years including issues with antisocial behaviour.
"The accommodation provided is considered to no longer be fit for purpose particularly in regards its adaptability to the Welsh Design Quality Requirements and effectiveness in terms of sustainable low energy design."
The report also states that Barcud has been in discussions with the applicant to develop the site to replace the existing 15 bedsits/flats into 13, one bedroom high quality flats - a reduction of two flats.
The houses were likely constructed during the industrial expansion of the town and are in much larger scale than the surrounding houses, giving them a sense of "grandeur" on the residential street scape.
Despite their history, the properties are not listed.
Town councillors will consider the application at their next meeting and provide a comment, however the final decision will be made by Powys County Council at either their Planning Committee or delegated to officers.
The application can be viewed online here and using reference '24/1093/FUL'. Comments can be submitted via the Planning Portal.
