According to the town council, the chimes will remain silent until restoration work is completed on Wednesday, December 18.
This is not the first time the town clock has encountered such issues; the last malfunction, in May last year, led to double chimes for each hour.
The clock, built to regulate the town's activities, has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1900 by Wood & Kendrick of Birmingham in honor of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
