You may have noticed that the price of fuel at the forecourts is rising in Newtown, but we've compared this to other local towns and found that we're being charged a lot more.

If you have been to a petrol station recently, you may have noticed prices have been increasing once again.

Crude oil, from which unleaded and diesel are refined, had been increasing in price from mid to late March and has continued this trend into April. Brent Crude now sits shy of $90 a barrel, a price not seen since October 2023.

If you've been using our petrol finder tool, you'll have seen petrol and diesel prices rising, but this rise seems to be much higher than surrounding towns.

We've crunched the data to reveal that filling up your petrol car in Newtown at Tesco will cost you 147.9p, but in Welshpool Tesco will cost you 142.9p - a massive 5p increase per litre.

The same goes for diesel, in Newtown filling up your tank will cost 157.9p at BP but in Welshpool at Shell, will cost you only 152.9p.

The opposite applies if we compare Texaco in Newtown which currently will cost you 148.9p to fill up your petrol car, however the same fuel at Texaco in Caersws will cost you 150.9p.

You can use our petrol tool finder to find out the latest price for the three filling stations in Newtown currently engaged in the open fuel scheme, or check them below.

We reached out to Tesco for a comment on why the disparty between Newtown and Welshpool. Aspokesperson said:

“We regularly monitor fuel prices throughout a local area to ensure we’re providing competitive prices for our customers.”

Data correct as of 17/04/2024.
