Although this surge in visitors is promising, it should be noted that these numbers still fall short of pre-pandemic levels, with 151,570 visitors in the last full year before Covid.
Newtown is not the only station in Powys experiencing a resurgence.
Welshpool station, the county's busiest railway hub, witnessed a notable increase in visitors as well, with a total of 140,554 entries and exits. This figure marks a significant rise from the 98,128 visitors recorded the previous year.
These encouraging trends can also be observed along the Cambrian line, where overall station traffic experienced an upturn. Each station recorded an increase in visitors, highlighting the collective effort to revive railway travel in Powys.
