Councillor Mike Theodoulou, Chair of One Voice Wales, commended the dedication of local councils in providing essential services in the face of various challenges such as climate change, the cost-of-living crisis, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the many outstanding entries, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council stood out for its exemplary work in community engagement through the establishment of the Town Partnership.

This collaborative effort brings together public, private, and voluntary sector organizations to work towards a prosperous and sustainable future for the town.

Town Clerk Ed Humphreys expressed his pleasure at receiving the recognition and highlighted the importance of councils and communities coming together to address key challenges and seize new opportunities for growth and development. He said:

“It was a great pleasure to attend the OVW National Awards Conference 2024 and a privilege to achieve recognition as joint winner for Best Community Engagement Initiative facilitating the coming together a Town Partnership."

"One of the striking features of the day was to see, hear and meet so many good people doing good things, individually and collectively, and to recognise publicly one anothers’ efforts."

"The event helped showcase the best and most innovative work of local councils – the elected representatives closest to their communities – and demonstrates a ‘can-do will-do’ way of working for and with others."

"In the case of the town partnership, it demonstrates ‘can-do will-do’ of your council and the community it represents working together. Truly inspiring and reinvigorating.”
