How to get involved in the traffic order consultation which makes widespread changes to parking and waiting limits across the town centre.

As reported by us last month, Powys County Council is holding a traffic order consultation which makes widespread changes to parking and waiting limits across Newtown and aims to help deal with 'inconsiderate and obstructive parking'.

The reasons for the proposals is due to the changes made to High Street, to introduce certain controls to address inconsiderate and obstructive parking and to address some of the issues identified by the Town Council and county councillors at Penygloddfa to improve safety of children.

The full proposals are listed below:

  1. Introduce new prohibitions of waiting at all times on sections of U4258 School Lane; C2011 Llanfair Road; and C2087 High Street.
  2. Introduce new no stopping on school entrance markings prohibition between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday on sections of U4258 School Lane.
  3. Introduce new prohibitions of waiting at all times and prohibition of loading at all times on sections of U4249 Wesley Street; U4249 Wesley Place; B4568 Broad Street; B4568 The Cross; B4568 Shortbridge Street; C2087 High Street; and U4247 New Road.
  4. Introduce new prohibitions of waiting at all times and prohibition of loading between 10am and 4pm on sections of B4568 Shortbridge Street.
  5. Introduce new and modify existing restrictions of waiting allowing parking for up to 1 hour with no return within 1 further hour between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday on sections of C2087 High Street; B4568 Shortbridge Street; and U4250 Gas Street.
  6. Introduce new restrictions of goods vehicles loading only between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday on sections of C2087 High Street; U4250 Severn Street; and B4568 Shortbridge Street.
  7. Introduce new restrictions of loading only between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday on sections of U4248 Market Street.
  8. Introduce new restrictions of limited waiting for up to 3 hours for disabled badge holders only on sections of C2087 High Street; and B4568 Shortbridge Street.

Prior to starting consultation, the Town Council and Dyfed Powys Police were consulted who raised no objections. Cllr Joy Jones (Newtown East) and Cllr Peter Lewington (Newtown West), as the local county councillors for the affected areas are also supportive of the proposals.

Objections and other representations which should include your name, email address and full postal address, and should be sent to traffic@powys.gov.uk with the subject line as "Various Roads, Newtown - Review of On Street Waiting and Loading and Parking Prohibitions Traffic Order Representation".

All responses must be received by 1st January 2023.
