On behalf of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council, Mayor Cllr John Byrne pays tribute to local businessman the late Trevor Wheatley OBE:

“We were saddened to hear of the recent death of Trevor Wheatley, co-founder of Control techniques. Mr Wheatley became Chairman of Control Techniques in 1984 and was responsible for the direction of the business during its time of rapid growth.

Under his leadership Control Techniques created many well-paid employment opportunities of skilled jobs during this period for the people of Newtown. Celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, Control Techniques has continued to grow, employing hundreds of people within the Newtown to produce world-class products.

He was a genuine entrepreneur whose business philosophy is one of inventiveness, boldness and one to stand out. Trevor was the driving force behind taking Control Techniques to world status, awarded an OBE in 1990 for services to the electronics industry.

Mr Wheatley was an extraordinary local man whose business has made a real difference to Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn and the local economy. We wish to express our sincere condolences to his family and all who knew him at this sad time”.
