Two new town councillors, both who previously stood as candidates in the County Council election in May, have been elected in the Newtown South ward, after an election there was 'uncontested'
Two new recruits are joining Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council after the recently held election in Newtown South ward was uncontested - meaning there was equal or less than two applications for the two vacant seats.
The two new town councillors are Darryl Gwilt and Jackie Molloy-Davies, who were both unsuccessful at the May county councillor elections for Newtown Central and South and Newtown North respectively. Jackie Molloy-Davies has previously served as a town councillor and stood down at the last election.
Both new councillors are considered by law to be 'elected' by default, meaning the total number of elected town councillors in Newtown now stands at 12 out of the 16 positions. The remaining 4 town councillors were co-opted earlier this year.
Mr Gwilt and Ms Molloy-Davies will take up their positions upon signing the declaration of office form.
