The organisers of the Newtown Carnival have appealed for more volunteers after postponing the event.

The committee has said that it needs at least 40 volunteers from September to July to help with fundraising and dozens of roles.

The event, which requires £4,000 to host, was postponed after just five people showed up to a public meeting aimed at recruiting volunteers.

Secretary Sarah has said there is a role for everyone to play in organising the event, from fundraising to preparing lorries for the parade.

Linda Williams, a volunteer for over 50 years, said it was "heart breaking" that the carnival had to be postponed due to a lack of volunteers.

The committee has invited anyone interested in helping to attend monthly meetings at The Monty Club or email newtowncarnival@hotmail.co.uk to find out how you and your family / friends can get involved.
