Having been formed by a group of dedicated volunteers over 35 years ago, the Newtown Local History Group has since focused on digitally documenting the social and cultural heritage of Newtown and its surrounding areas.

Their aim is to ensure that this invaluable information is preserved for future generations. A significant initiative that the group has undertaken is the creation of the Newtonian Journal, which was launched in 2000.

This journal has been instrumental in sharing over 1,000 stories across 88 editions.

A spokesperson for the history group expressed the need for volunteers, stating:

"We are in need of voluntary assistance to develop and maintain our photographic archive, and to carry out research for new stories. Additionally, we are looking for individuals interested in interviewing local residents and gathering their stories, in order to further enrich our understanding of our cultural heritage. We also aim to highlight significant events and locations of historic importance in our community."

Individuals interested in volunteering their skills and time to the Newtown Local History Group are encouraged to reach out to the group via email at newtownhistorygroup@yahoo.com.
