This Sunday marks a significant occasion in Newtown as the community comes together to honor and remember those who have served and sacrificed for their country.
The Town Council has responsibility for organising the civic remembrance events and has issued information regarding the events for the general public.

The day's schedule includes a church service at All Saints (time to be confirmed), a civic remembrance parade and ceremony, wreath laying at Newtown Cenotaph, and a post-parade buffet hosted by the Town Council. Roads will be closed to facilitate the procession, and the ceremony will be live streamed for those unable to attend.

Road Closures for Remembrance Sunday
- Broad Street: 10:15am - 10:45am, 11:55am - 12:15pm
- Shortbridge Street: 10:45am - 10:55am
- New Road/War Memorial area: 10:55am - 11:45am
- New Church Street: 11:45am - 11:55am
The Town Council will also host an event to mark Armistice Day on Monday 11th November 2024 with a brief ceremony involving the Mayor, Councillors, and students from local primary schools. This solemn occasion will include the reading of names from the war memorial and wreath laying by the students.
The community is encouraged to participate in this event, which will also be broadcast live for wider engagement. Road closures will be in effect to ensure a safe and respectful gathering.
