A town centre restaurant has been given a 1 food hygiene rating by Environmental Health Officers, signifying that 'major improvements' are necessary.

Bahar Fine Tandoori Restaurant, located at 49 Broad Street in Newtown, has recently received a low food hygiene rating following an inspection by Powys County Council's Public Protection Team

The restaurant, which offers a variety of indian and tandoori dishes, was awarded a 1 out of 5 rating for food hygiene, signifying that major improvements are necessary.

The inspection, carried out on September 26, 2024, assessed the restaurant in three key areas critical to food hygiene standards: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and overall management of food safety.

According to the summary report, Bahar Fine Tandoori Restaurant needs to address issues in each area evaluated:

Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage - Improvement necessary

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene - Improvement necessary

System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future - Major improvement necessary
