Powys councillors have pledged to champion the cause of unpaid young and adult carers, after hearing their stories in the council chamber on March 27.

The councillors will work to raise awareness of the 35,000 unpaid carers across Powys, who are providing care to loved ones with ill health or disabilities.

They will also collaborate with carers in making decisions and developing policies on health and social care. The councillors will invite others in their area to support, value and respect young and adult carers, such as local schools, services and community groups.
Councillor Sian Cox, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, was impressed by the presentation given by Credu and the unpaid young and adult carers they work with. She urged everyone to become carer-aware, and to recognise and acknowledge the enormous service that carers provide to society.
The presentation was chaired by carer Kim Spelman, and featured young and adult carers sharing their experiences. The councillors listened intently and respectfully, and pledged to support carers in their communities.
