Residents have been informed that card recycling banks will be removed from the community recycling sites across Powys in October, following a notification issued in July.

According to the county council, when community recycling sites were initially introduced, there were no kerbside recycling collections available. These sites served as a convenient way for residents to recycle household items close to home.

However, with the establishment of a weekly kerbside recycling service, this has negated the need for the community recycling sites.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys said:

"The decision to remove card recycling banks was agreed by the cabinet earlier this year."

"This move not only aligns with budget-saving measures but also eliminates a duplication of service, allowing us to focus our resources on the weekly kerbside collections."

"For those accustomed to utilizing the card recycling banks, breaking up card and adding it to the blue recycling box enables easy recycling from home. Residents needing additional recycling capacity can request more boxes online, while larger amounts of card can be taken to any of the five Household Waste Recycling Centres across Powys."

The removal of these banks also addresses concerns of abuse, with fly-tippers contaminating the material with non-recyclable waste or businesses using them illegally.

Businesses in need of recycling collection services are encouraged to reach out to the Powys Commercial Recycling team for a free quote at commercial.recycling@powys.gov.uk or by calling 01597 810829.

Details about the recycling banks' removal were circulated in July, and posters informing users have been prominently displayed at all sites over the summer.
