Newtown's town centre will be filled with thousands of residents and visitors this weekend as it hosts some amazing events and activities.

Kicking off the festivities will be the celebration the 80th Anniversary of D-Day with a special event organised by the Town Council in Dolerw Park.

D-Day 80th Anniversary Event

  • Friday 7th June 2024
  • Dolerw Park
  • From 5pm

The event will take us back to the 1940s and enjoy a summer evening filled with entertainment, sunshine, scenic views and wonderful company.

Organisers are asking participants to bring a chair, picnic or venture into town and pick up some fish and chips to accompany the amazing line up. Entertainment includes D-Day Dawn, Newtown Silver Band and Blitz Dancers, set in the iconic surroudings of Dolew Park.

More information for the D-Day Anniversary event can be found here.

Newtown Carnival

  • Saturday 8th June 2024
  • Town Centre
  • Parade starts at 12:30pm

Come and celebrate the return of the annual Newtown Carnival, which has been absent since the pandemic. Come and join the Carnival Queen Elect and join in the new parade route as the Newtown Carnival makes its way through the town centre.

Starting at 12:30, the parade will set off from it's home in Lower Canal Road and come down Broad Street as usual. Due to the new layout of High Street, it will then make it's way down Shortbridge Street and turn back through New Church Street, ending up back on the Carnival Field (green space outside the Town Hall) for an afternoon of entertainment.

The crowning of the Carnival Queen will take place at 1:45pm and the winners of the floats awarded at 2pm.

More information for the Newtown Carnival can be found in our special article here.

Newtown March and Open Air Contest

  • Sunday 9th June 2024

  • From 11am

This staple event of the Newtown calendar returns to the Town Hall Grounds as Newtown Silver Band and others bring you a feast of music. Bring a chair and enjoy the surroundings and atmosphere. Refreshments will be available.

More information for the Newtown March and Open Air Contest event can be found here.

These events have been supported by the Town Council's Tourism Event Grant.  Organisers interested in accessing the Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council Tourism Events Grant are encouraged to get in touch with the town council for further information.
