In a recent social media post, Open Newtown stated:

"Disappointing to see multiple motorbike tire tracks around the Gorsedd Stones and community orchard."

"If you’ve been witness, or know who has ridden a motorbike in this area, please let us know so we can reengage with the Police over this matter again."

"We can be contacted via email - contact@opennewtown.org.uk or phone 01686 610777."

The Gorsedd Stones, a landmark in Dolerw Park, were erected in 1965 for the Eisteddfod and holds cultural and historical importance for the town. The presence of off-road motorbikes not only damages the grass and pathways but also poses safety risks to park visitors.

Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it illegal to ride any mechanically propelled vehicle in public open spaces such as parks, play areas, and pavements.

Local residents are encouraged to report any sightings of off-road motorbikes in restricted areas to Open Newtown or directly to the police.
