The upcoming phase will see the widening of the pavement to create a shared-use path catering to pedestrians, families with young children in pushchairs, wheelchair and mobility scooter users, as well as children and adults on bikes. Safety measures will be improved, ensuring a safer environment for all users.
Funded through the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund, this project forms part of a larger scheme that seeks to connect with other active travel routes within Newtown.
“The Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 aims to make Wales a walking and cycling nation,” stated Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys. “Following consultation and the development of the county’s Active Travel Network Maps, and with the support of Welsh Government funding, it is exciting to witness another phase of the active travel scheme in Newtown come to fruition.”
Work is projected to be finalized by March 31, 2025. The Council has stated that there will be minimal disruptions by implementing traffic management throughout the project duration.
